PERFECT INVENTIONS=PERFECT WORLD Review
This is a really neat book that I found at a Scholastic book fair one year. It was written by fifth grade students. They used latin and greek roots in order to create inventions that the students thought would help the world and then illustrated them. For example: Ecdemaquarati: ecdem (travel -Greek-) Aqua (water -Latin-) and rati (raft -Latin-) Then the students described this as an invention that can save people from drowning in vehicles. If you vehicle runs off a bridge, you land on floats that will keep your vehicle above the water until help arrives. Upon impact with water, a signal is sent to emergency rescue, and help is dispatched immediately. This invention will descrease the number of people who drown when their vehicle runs off a bridge.I plan on using this book in the classroom this year for teaching roots and their meanings and having them create their own inventions. It is a wonderful idea and very creative!
